The Sierra Foothills AVA is one of 340 American Viticultural Areas — federally recognized wine-growing regions defined by the TTB in 27 CFR Part 9. The AVA was established on December 18, 1987.

It contains 12 sub-AVAs: California Shenandoah Valley, El Dorado, Fair Play, Fiddletown, North Yuba, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mariposa, Nevada, Placer, Tuolumne, and Yuba.
