The Columbia Valley AVA is one of 340 American Viticultural Areas — federally recognized wine-growing regions defined by the TTB in 27 CFR Part 9. The AVA was established on November 13, 1984.

It contains 10 sub-AVAs: Ancient Lakes of Columbia Valley, Candy Mountain, Horse Heaven Hills, Naches Heights, Rattlesnake Hills, Red Mountain, The Rocks District of Milton-Freewater, Snipes Mountain, Walla Walla Valley, and Yakima Valley.
